George Washington’s Estate and Museum is presenting a Guest Artist appearance with Silhouettes By Hand. Lauren Muney has been invited to cut silhouettes for visitors and members who are interested in giving traditionally-handmade silhouettes for loved ones (or for themselves!) for the holidays.
Silhouettes By Hand will be set up in the Education Center lobby. The event link is on Mount Vernon’s website here . Make your plans now to visit one of America’s most beloved iconic estates, experience the challenges and triumphs of George Washington, our first President, and see the splendor of the holiday season as Mount Vernon decorates in the grandest style.
Your traditional silhouette portrait will be hand-made in front of your eyes - freehand-cut with only scissors in the traditional method of the 18th century. This is no mass-produced image made with any modern devices - your portrait will be cut for you, while you watch, of your own loved ones (or yourself).
You truly will be watching a lost trade - but instead of being lost, it waits for you to experience yourself.
